How a frustrated traveler with a guitar case and a dream built a platform for people who believe sharing is caring.
“I didn't set out to build a company. I just wanted to play guitar without paying an extra $75 every time I flew.”
Picture this: A cramped airplane seat, an overhead bin that definitely can't fit a guitar case, and a $75 checked baggage fee staring me in the face. Again. For the hundredth time. I was traveling for work (as usual), and my trusty acoustic guitar was making the journey with me (as usual). Somewhere between cruising altitude and my third tiny bag of pretzels, it hit me: Why am I doing this?
What if... instead of dragging my guitar across continents, I could just rent one wherever I landed? What if someone in Tokyo had a beautiful acoustic just sitting in their closet, waiting to be played? What if a photographer in Paris had a spare lens that could make someone's trip unforgettable? What if we could build a world where stuff doesn't just sit collecting dust—it creates memories?
I started small. I talked to travelers, musicians, photographers, DIY enthusiasts, and anyone who'd listen. Turns out, I wasn't alone. Everyone had that one thing they needed occasionally but couldn't justify buying. Everyone had that one thing sitting unused that someone else would love. The sharing economy was ready for something new. SwapAxe was born.
Late nights of coding, countless cups of coffee, and an unwavering belief that people are fundamentally good and love to help each other. We built SwapAxe to be more than a rental platform—it's a community of creators, makers, musicians, and dreamers who believe that access matters more than ownership.
Today, SwapAxe is connecting people across cities and countries. That guitar I used to lug around? It's now being rented out to fellow travelers when I'm home. And when I land somewhere new, there's always a local instrument waiting for me. The best part? I've made friends in cities I've never even visited, all because we shared a love for music and the belief that life's too short to let good stuff sit unused.
Every rental on SwapAxe is a new chapter. A musician playing their first gig with a borrowed amp. A DIYer building their dream deck with rented tools. What's your chapter going to be?
